THE FESTIVAL

Chesterfield Competitive Fesitval of Music and Drama

The festival was re-launched as Chesterfield Music Festival in 2010. The aim of the festival is to provide a competitive platform for amateur musicians and singers to perform in a supportive setting and to receive a professional adjudication on their performance. Speech & Drama classes were introduced in 2012. This is not the X factor and there are no TV or record deals at the end of it, merely certificates, medals, trophies and a winners' concert. The festival was renamed in 2014 to emphasize the competitive nature of the festival as well as to promote the speech and drama classes.

The festival also gives the general public an opportunity to enjoy the talents of competitors and to appreciate performances of music and song, along with speech and drama, in a festival environment. We, therefore, encourage people to go along to a session and listen or alternatively to the 'All Winners Concert'.

Festival Committee

The Chesterfield Music & Drama Festival Committee is a group of enthusiastic and committed volunteers who organise and run the festival. Our intention is to keep the festival self-funding and we have managed this since 2010. We achieve this by means of small charges to festival competitors and spectators, charity concerts and coffee mornings but fund-raising is becoming increasingly difficult as costs continue to rise.

President: John Goodrum

Chair:

Vice Chair: Melanie Gilbert

We keep costs to a minimum by

• Acting as stewards for the festival and fund-raising events and

• Calling on the generous help of other festival supporters

The basic costs, however, for the hire of venues, adjudicators, accompanists, certificates and medals need to be met. We would like to ensure the future of the festival. If you are interested in supporting or sponsoring the festival please visit the contact us page.
